Psalm 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
I like to look up definitions of words as I read my King James Bible- great way to study Scripture.
I use Websters 1828 dictionary.
wicked - Evil in principle or practice; addicted to vice; sinful; immoral.
I have recently heard people defending their lifestyles and sin by saying "we cannot live with out sin so God gives grace". Sadly, these same people are openly, defiantly, and blatantly living and flaunting their sin. That is not what God is talking about with grace. I am not going to claim to understand all about God's grace. I have been mulling over a few thoughts that I thought I would share.
I have heard people say- I don't have to live by "rules" or "standards" set up by people because God gives me grace. What does God's Word say.
Romans 6:1-2, 12 vs.1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
vs. 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
vs. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Once we have accepted Christ as our Saviour we are to not continue in our sin. God does love us and forgives us of our sin. He also wants us to not continue in our sin. I have even heard people refer to the story of the women caught in adultery. They say God didn't condemn her he loved her. BUT they leave out a part of that Scripture. John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: GO, AND SIN NO MORE.
He didn't stop with "Neither do I condemn thee" He included something else "Go, and sin NO more".
He does forgive but he also does not expect us to continue to live in that sin. We all sin that is a given but God wants us to see that sin, repent, and walk away from it. The Holy Spirit reveals our sin to us when we truly seek him. We also see our sin when we study Scripture.
It breaks my heart to hear people defend themselves in sin with Scripture.
God does love us. Yet he does not condone the wicked living. In Psalms alone there are 86 verses about the wicked.
It is not my place to condemn or point a finger. Yet, don't expect me to just shrug my shoulders and continue in close fellowship with one walking in open sin.Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
1John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
That verse in Ephesians tells us to reprove. He is talking about fellow believers.
None of us is with out sin. Please don't take me wrong that I am saying I am better than others that is not my point. I have just been heavy hearted by some that are openly flaunting their sin and claiming that all others are wrong to "reprove them" and then claim verses of God's love and basically say their are ok with God in their sin.
In the Psalm 139 passage he continues to talk about the wicked. Read the end.
Psalm 139:21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
Psalm 139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Psalm 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
This made me examine myself today. Does God have cause to be angry with me today? gossip, wrong anger, harsh words, bad thoughts- the list goes on.
I am thankful that he does forgive when we confess.
1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Hope these random thoughts are a help to someone.
